BEECH GROVE LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL

Equipping your Little Leaguer

Having the right clothing and equipment is essential for your player to be comfortable and safe during games and practices.
Little League FAQ: Equipment

Uniform
The league provides a hat and shirt for each player. Families will provide pants and socks - color to be determined by your coach. Belts are optional.

Cleats
Cleats are highly recommended at all levels of play. Tee Ball can wear regular athletic sneakers if preferred. For Tee Ball, Rookies, Minors and Majors divisions cleats should be rubber or molded plastic, no metal spikes.

Glove/Mitt
All players should have a glove that fits the player's hand. Gloves sizes are in inches and the right size is the one that feels comfortable on the player’s hand. A general rule of thumb for glove sizes is as follows:

  • 9” to 10” for players 5-6 years old
  • 9 1/2” to 10 1/2” for players 7-8 yrs old
  • 10” to 10 1/2” for players 9-10 yrs old
  • 10 1/2” to 11” for players 11-12 yrs old

Batting Helmet
All players must wear a batting helmet that meets the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) specifications and has the NOCSAE stamp. Many players prefer to have their own helmet rather than sharing, however the league does have some that can be borrowed and shared. Face masks and jaw guards are recommended but not required.

Players are allowed to add stickers to their helmets provided such usage is not excessive, offensive and does not include inappropriate references such as illicit drugs or alcohol. Note: Manufacturer's advise that adding stickers, decals, paint or any other alterations may void the warranty and/or NOCSAE certification.

Bats
Most players prefer to have their own bat, however the league does have a limited number of bats that can be shared among players. Players on the same team will often share their bats as well.

Bat Requirements:

  • Tee Ball: Certified Tee Ball bats (26″ and shorter) will feature the USA Baseball logo and text which reads “ONLY FOR USE WITH APPROVED TEE BALLS”
  • Rookie, Minor and Major: Bats must feature the USA Baseball logo, cannot be more than 33” in length or more than 2 ⅝” in diameter.
  •  Intermediates (50/70) & Juniors: Bats cannot be more than 34″ inches in length or more than 2⅝ inches in diameter. They can have either the USA Baseball logo or BBCOR certification mark.
  • Seniors: Bats cannot be more than 36’ in length, or more than 2⅝ inches in diameter. They can have either the USA Baseball logo or BBCOR certification mark.
